The impact of cancer is growing rapidly as the population ages. Advanced treatment of cancers is an achievement of multidisciplinary cooperation. As more and more people live with their illness for a long time, the importance of flexible working life, support services, and personalised care and treatments increases. In 2019, the Finnish Cancer Center FICAN was established in Finland to meet this challenge. Its contracting parties comprise all joint municipal authorities in Finnish hospital districts and five universities engaged in teaching and research in the fields of med-ical science. FICAN consists of a coordinating unit and several regional cancer centres.

FICAN (Comprehensive Cancer Center Finland) and its coordinating unit, is seeking a

DIRECTOR OF THE FINNISH CANCER CENTER

on a five-year (5) fixed-term contract, to be based at HUS Helsinki University Hospital.

FICAN’s mission is to:

– implement the planning and coordination of cancer prevention, diagnostics, treatment and rehabilitation at the national level, and to develop national cancer treatment recommendations

– connect cancer research more closely to patient care

– assess the effectiveness and quality of cancer prevention and treatments

The FICAN Director will be responsible for drawing up the national strategy, action plan, and budget in coopera-tion with the directors of regional cancer centres. The Director shall report on the operations and finances of the Center to FICAN’s Executive Group.

A part-time professorship may be attached to the position at a later date.

Job selection criteria

Applicants for the position are required to have completed a doctoral degree and hold docent qualifications or the equivalent. A medical degree is considered an advantage.

We require the applicant to provide strong evidence of their international cancer research, familiarity with the service system and the treatment of cancer patients, administrative expertise, and experience in management positions.

We value excellent communication skills, expertise in teamwork and cooperation, flexibility, and an active ap-proach to development.

Before accepting the position, the successful candidate must present an acceptable statement of their state of health provided by a occupational health care professional.

In accordance with the Communicable Diseases Act, we require vaccinations for personnel working in client and patient facilities and health assessments for respiratory tuberculosis for personnel working in health care units.

The successful candidate is required to have a good proficiency in English.
